Norene Elizabeth “Betty” Gonderman went to be with the Lord on August 18, 2022 at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital at the age of 97. She was born in Spangle, Washington on December 15, 1924 to Reed & Mabel Morrow. Betty grew up in and around Spokane.
She met her first husband Captain Clark Guinn through a cousin who urged her to be a pen pal to lonely soldiers during World War 2. She and “Cap” were married on December 24, 1943. They had two daughters and lived in Spokane Valley until “Cap” passed away suddenly in March of 1964. She and her daughters then moved back into Spokane and she became the bookkeeper for Northwest Christian School. She met her second husband, James Gonderman, who was a member of the board at the school. They married on February 17, 1968 and moved to Yakima. They were married for 44 years until Jim passed away in December of 2012. Betty was the bookkeeper for the Union Gospel Mission until Jim retired and they started to travel. They owned a time share on Maui and visited Hawaii 26 times.
Betty enjoyed music, knitting, crossword puzzles and chocolate. She was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother. She will be remembered as always having a smile on her face.
Betty is survived by her brother Reed (Virginia) Morrow, daughters Laurel L Guinn, Carol J Loudon, step daughter Linda (Dennis) Waites, step son David Gonderman as well as 3 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff at Highgate Senior Living for taking such good care of mom while she lived there. They would also like to thank the doctors and nurses at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital for their compassion.
