

Yakima- Ocie Young, 97, of Yakima passed away Friday, December 25, 2015 at Cottage in the Meadow. He was born May 22, 1918 in Protem, Missouri to Jesse Andrew and Galena Stella (Terry) Young. On February 8, 1941, he married his longtime neighbor, Elwanda Blanche Ford in Protem, Missouri.
Ocie worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps prior to his being drafted into the U.S. Army in WWII in 1941. He served four years at Pearl Harbor, Honolulu, Hawaii in the 174th General Hospital as a Medical Technician. Upon Ocie’s discharge from the Army in 1945, he spent the rest of his working life in the trucking industry as a mechanic. Ocie retired in 1979 in Seattle and moved to Yakima with is wife. He especially enjoyed being a member of the VFW and American Legion. He joined the VFW in 1947 and has been involved since then as an Honor Guard with the VFW Funeral Team. He was the oldest veteran in Yakima County. He also enjoyed camping, fishing, yard work, traveling in his 5th wheel travel trailer, wood crafting and building.
He is survived by his three children, Robert Young of Ellensburg, Loretta Miller of Yakima and Ron Young of Colfax; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, two brothers, Carl Young of Tanneyville, MO, and Don Young of Independence, MO. Ocie was preceded in death by his wife, Elwanda Young, a brother, J.T. Young of Belton, MO, and five sisters, Irlma Bray of Protem, MO, Bermetta Dean of Protem, MO, Leva Moore of Springfield, MO, Neva Ford of K.C., MO, and Hazel Ridinger of Springfield, MO.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday, January 3, 2016 at Langevin El Paraiso Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, January 4, 2016 also at the Funeral Home with burial following at Terrace Heights Memorial Park.
