
She married Gus Atterberry and together they started their family. In search of prosperity in 1946 they moved from the family farm to Yakima, W A. She lived in Ahtanum until moving into The Ponderosa Retirement Center in 2011.
For many years she worked as a warehouse clerk for Clasen Fruit and later in life operated a custom sewing & alteration business.
She was an avid gardener and enjoyed the fruits and beauties of nature. She was extremely proud of the Golden Jubilee com that she and Gus grew in their garden and the peaches from the tree that grew from a seed planted by her granddaughter.
She enjoyed time with her family and taking care of her grand children, they knew they were always welcome at grandma Rachel's house and she would make a good P&B sandwich for them using her special strawberry jam.
Her parents preceded her in death; along with husband Gus, brothers Troy, Ted and Mack Jackson; son in laws: Bill Pannell, Don Ribail; and great grandson Jason Ferres. Survivors include daughters, Melba Rebail of La Pine OR and Mary Pannell of Yakima; a son, Glen Atterberry (Sally) of Yakima; brother, Bill Jackson of Galveston, TX; sister, Ruth Triboulet of Detroit, Michigan; 9 grandchildren, 16 great grand children, and 3 great -great grand children.
The family wishes to express thanks to the staff of The Ponderosa Retirement Center and Lower Valley Hospice for the care given Rachel during a very challenging illness.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, December 19, 2011 at Keith & Keith Ninth Avenue Chapel. A Graveside service will be 1:00 p.m. on December 20, 2011 at Tahoma Cemetery.
