Rachel was born on January 23, 1931 in Crystal City Texas to Irene and José Castañeda. The family came to Washington State in 1946 and settled in the Yakima Valley. Rachel graduated from Toppenish High School in 1956 and married Francisco Ortiz Lozano later that same year. Rachel worked as a CNA at Parkside nursing home, later moving to the Yakima Valley Regional Library as a librarian where she retired in 1996. Rachel’s favorite pastimes included making big puzzles, playing dominos with friends and caring for her many house plants, including a Hoya plant that she grew to fill a room. Rachel's warm and loving nature was well known among family and friends by her always welcoming and accepting manner no matter who came to her door. Rachel will always be remembered for her love and devotion to her Faith, her children, grandchildren and extended family.
