In loving memory of Richard Kanzig, who peacefully departed this world on October 14, 2026, after a short illness. Born on February 17, 1935, in Dakin, Alberta, Canada, Richard led a life full of adventure, dedication, and love. He was the beloved son of Orville W. and Minnie M. Kanzig.
Richard's life was marked by his service to his country and community. As a young man, he served in the U.S. Navy as a SeaBee from 1952 to 1956, a period that ignited his lifelong passion for working with heavy machinery. After his military service, Richard became a Heavy Equipment Operator with the International Union of Operating Engineers, dedicating over 60 years to the trade he loved.
In 1954, Richard married the love of his life, Shari L. Mansfield, and they shared 62 wonderful years together until her passing. Together, they built a family that became the cornerstone of Richard's life. He is survived by his children, Randall Kanzig and his wife Janise, Traci McClanathan and her husband Lee, Kelli White and her husband Calvin, and Eric Kanzig and his wife Tammy. Richard's legacy also includes 9 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren, who brought him immense joy and pride.
Richard was predeceased by his cherished wife, Shari, and his granddaughter, Shana Kanzig-Hall, both of whom he held close in his heart.
A man of many interests, Richard was an avid member of the Yakima Ridgerunners Jeep Club for 50 years, a Freemason, and a proud member of the American Legion. He found happiness in the simple pleasures of life, such as driving his jeep and later his RZR, riding through the hills until the age of 90. Richard relished camping, often traveling with the Apple Rover RV Club, and found solace in watching western and war movies, particularly those featuring John Wayne. Ever the craftsman, he spent countless hours on various projects in his shop.
Richard's Celebration of Life will be held on December 19, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Keith & Keith in Yakima, WA. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to a charity of your choice.
Richard's life was a testament to hard work, devotion, and the enduring power of family. His legacy will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him. May he rest in peace, reunited with his beloved Shari and forever cherished in the hearts of his family and friends.
