

Following school in Tilbury, Ontario, Canada, Richard spent 3 years with the Marine Corps during the Korean War. In August 1958 Richard set sail around the world with the US Navy. Rich became a Nationalized United States citizen December 4, 1968. He retired from the Navy July 1, 1974 and moved his family to Yakima. He worked for Carroll High School in Yakima and then for the Yakima Firing Center. July 31, 1997 he retired from civil service at the Yakima Firing Center.
Richard was known for dancing the night away with his loving wife Fran.
Richard is preceded in death by Clark and Rheta Ross, first wife Betty Carol Ross, Art Kyle, George Kyle and former wife Doris Ross.
He is survived by his wife Fran of Yakima, WA, Ida Kyle of Petrolia, Ontario, Canada, Karen Kyle of Sarnia, Ontario, Canada, James (Karen) Ross of Plymouth, NC, Rita Carol Brandt of Kitty Hawk, NC, Carrie (Carlos) Trevino of Grandview, WA, Shelie (Brian) Aman of Yakima, WA, Charles (CarriAnn) Ross of Naches, WA, Fran’s children Doug (Kim) Birge of Livingston, MT, Gaylen Birge of Naches, WA, Gina (Monir) Bahhage of Snoqualmie, WA, Julie Birge of Naches, WA and numerous loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visitation and viewing will be held today December 19, 2014 from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Rainier Memorial Center, 2807 Terrace Heights Dr., Yakima. Funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, December 20, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Rainier Memorial Center. A Reception will immediately follow at the American Legion Club, 1120 N. 34th Ave. Yakima. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date at Mayhew Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Thamesville, Ontario, Canada.
