

Robert (Bob) Owen Rodgers Jr. was born May 6, 1928 in Wilmington, North Carolina to Robert & Mattie Jane Rodgers. When he was 18 years old Bob enlisted in the Unites States Navy and served from 1946-1950. He earned the Good Conduct Medal Award and World War II Victory Medal Award while serving his country. Following his discharge he went to work for the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, Washington where he earned the Superior Accomplishment Award and Beneficial Suggestion Award. He retired out of the Shipyard as a General Foreman on January 1, 1984. He then worked with his son Robin in the Landscaping business overseeing the maintenance department and irrigation systems. The last four years he was the Maintenance Manger at Squaw Rock Resort toward Chinook Pass.
Bob married Irene Dano in April of 1955. They lived in Bremerton until moving to Poulsbo in 1964 where they raised their family of five children. Bob enjoyed playing Country Music with his own bands in the 50’s and 60’s. Bob and Irene were members of Keyport Bible Church where they often sang Southern Gospel music together. Bob also served as an elder at the church for a number of years.
He enjoyed hunting with his sons, coaching Little League, working on motorcycles for his children and traveling in the motor home with his wife. They also enjoyed spending time in Hawaii.
His wife Irene preceded him in death from cancer in 2003. He is survived by his five children: Robert (Katherine) of Bonney Lake, Washington; Robin (Jenifer) of Naches, Washington; Randy (Barb) of Tukwila, Washington; Rayce (Rachel) of Port Orchard, Washington and Reana Rodgers of Poulsbo, Washington; 14 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
There will be a Memorial Service at the Nile Valley Community Church, Naches on March 10, 2011 at 6:00pm and Keyport Bible Church, Keyport on March 12, 2011 at 6:00pm.
