Robert James Shaw of the Terraces at Summitview passed away peacefully on June 3, 2025, just days before his 97th birthday. He was born on June 8, 1928, to John M Shaw and Leonelda L. Koenigs Shaw in Riverton, Wa. Robert was one of three brothers, John Shaw Jr. and William Shaw; both brothers are Catholic priests of the Yakima Diocese. Growing up the Shaws were raised in a loving household where family, Catholic faith and vocation were a part of their lives. He received his education in Riverton and Tukwila, attending local grade and high schools, before continuing his studies at Edison Technical School in Seattle. He enlisted in the Army and served for two years. In 1955, Robert married the love of his life, Kreszenz Woperer, in Bellingham, Washington. Together they had four children, three predeceasing he and his wife. He is survived by their fourth daughter Karen (Dave) McKellor of Arlington, and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Kreszenz in 2021. Robert displayed exceptional musical gifts from an early age, possessing perfect pitch in both string and brass instruments. He especially enjoyed playing the violin and trombone, passions that remained with him throughout his life. Robert's professional life reflected his dedication and strong work ethic. He held positions at Todd Shipyards, Boeing Air Factory, and with the Washington State Highway Department in Snohomish County. He proudly served as the Lead Man in Bridge Maintenance and Operation until his retirement in 1998. Robert lived in the Everett area for over 60 years before relocating to Yakima in 2017. In his later years, Robert continued to enjoy his lifelong hobbies -- playing the violin and restoring vintage cars. He was known for his quick wit and sense of humor, often entertaining those around him with his puns and jokes, even in his final days. He was a devoted husband, loving father, and a faithful member of his church. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff and nurses of Terraces at Summitview Retirement, as well as the compassionate team at Memorial Hospital, for their care and kindness. A viewing will be held on Monday, June 16, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with a Rosary at 6:00 p.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, 5315 Tieton Dr, Yakima, WA 98908. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at the same location. A graveside committal will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Holy Rosary Cemetery, Holy Rosary Rd, Moxee, WA 98936, where he will be laid to rest beside his beloved Kreszenz.
