Robert Harry Shoemaker

Robert is survived by his wife Laurette G. Shoemaker, sibling's; Delores Dickison, Rod Shoemaker and Dixon Shoemaker. His Children; Jeffery Shoemaker, Rene’ Green, Kurt Shoemaker, and Laurinda DeYoung, grandchildren; Jennifer, Kimberly, Matthew, Alina, Daniel, Jordan, and Noelle, last but not least 12 great grandchildren.

Bob was born in Pasco, Washington to Vola A. and Harry T. Shoemaker. At the age of 8 his family moved to Baker, Oregon. Bob was known as a jack of all trades. To just name a few, in Baker, during his Youth, he became a Shoe Shine boy, Pin Setter, and as a teen he was a bell hop. As a young adult he moved to the coast where he went to Barber School, worked as a Salvage scuba diver, a Boeing riveter, serviced lift trucks, worked in the weights and measures department under Governor Rossellini, and was manager of the Fry Hotel in Seattle. He then moved back east to Kennewick where he began tending bar, was a Gate Agent for West Coast Airlines in Pasco and Yakima, and a Welding Inspector for Huico. He then became the Public School Lunch Program manager in Pasco. Later he bid for the same job in Yakima where he finished his career as Director of Support Services. Along with his career he was a volunteer in various community services and a longtime member of the Fraternity Order of Eagles (FOE).

Throughout his life, Bob enjoyed many things including; tumbling, drill team, swimming, diving, fishing, golfing, sculpture welding, avid story telling (who had much to tell) and skiing of which he was an Instructor at Spout Springs and White Pass.

He will be dearly missed by all who loved him while watching over all of us and will always be close in our hearts.

Visitation will be at Keith & Keith Funeral Home on Sunday, October 9, 2016 from 12:00 until 4:00 p.m.

A Funeral Service will be held Monday, October 10, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Rainier Memorial Center.

Concluding service and burial will follow at Terrace Heights Memorial Park.
