Ronald (Ron) Edward Harpy Sr., age 76, went to be with the lord on September 1, 2018 at Cottage in the Meadow, after battling cancer for several months. He was born in Baltimore, Maryland to Joseph and Elva Harpy on September, 19, 1941.
Ron held various jobs in Baltimore before serving in the US Army from 1958-1962. It was his military service that brought him to Washington State, and into the arms of his loving wife Loretta. The couple met in Yakima and shared a special kind of a bond that many couples only dream of. The couple was married on May 31, 1962 at Terrace Heights Baptist church, after Ron returned from Germany.
Ten months after the couple married, they celebrated the birth of their first son Ronald Edward Harpy Jr. After spending a brief time in Baltimore they returned to Yakima where they welcomed a daughter, Rhonda Leeta (Harpy) Picatti. Ron and Loretta courageously started a legacy by founding Ron’s Office Equipment of Yakima. The business continues to provide service to the Yakima Valley, and is led by his son, Ronald Harpy Jr. Throughout the years, several family members have been involved in the business but Ronald always had Loretta by his side encouraging and helping him.
Ron was known for his endearing love of his family. Ron is preceded in death by his brother, Dennis Wayne Harpy, and both of his parents.
He is survived by his loving wife Loretta Harpy of Yakima, son Ronald Harpy Jr. of Yakima, daughter Rhonda Leeta (Harpy) Picatti of Kennewick, brothers John and Tommy, sisters Joyce and Joanne, grandchildren, Andrea (JD) Jarvis, Amanda (Branden) Burch, Jennifer (Brandon) Hahn, Jacqueline (Jerrod) Holm, and Ronald Edward Harpy the 3rd. Ronald also leaves behind eleven loving great-grandchildren. The family would like to extend thanks for all of the love and support throughout Ronald’s illness.
A special thank you to the staff of Virginia Mason Memorial’s Hospice and Cottage in the meadow.
A Celebration of Life is scheduled for Friday, September 28th at 10.00 a.m. at Keith and Keith Funeral Home on Yakima Avenue.
At the family’s request, in lieu of flowers, please direct donations to Cottage in the Meadow in Ron’s name.
