Rose Marie Carnevali, age 96, passed away on the morning of March 10, 2014. She died peacefully in her home and in the knowledge that she was greatly loved by her family. She was born in Seattle on January 30, 1918 to Elsie and Sam Logozzo. The family moved to Yakima in 1922 where she attended St. Joseph Academy and Wide Hollow School.
She married Roy Carnevali on May 28, 1938 and spent 55 years being an indispensable help and partner with him in all the duties that it took to run a fruit ranch. She would rise early in the morning, get the family off with a hearty breakfast, do the household chores and then proceed outside to help with the ranch work. Not only was her work ethic an inspiration to her family but to all who knew her.
She was a past member of the St. Peter Church in Cowiche and was very active in the St. Peter’s Altar Society. After Roy and Rose moved to Yakima, she then attended Holy Family Parish. She was also a member of the Women’s Century Club as well as the Yakima Republican Women’s Club.
She loved to garden and treated her family to many a memorable dinner of her homegrown salads and fresh vegetables. Her cooking was so renowned that all who knew her treasured an invite to have dinner at Rose and Roy’s home. But gardening and cooking could not come close to her fervor for playing bridge. She was an exceptional player and spent many enjoyable years playing with family and all the friends she made at the Harman Center.
She is survived by daughter Rita (Mark) Hanses of Yakima and sons Ray (Christine) Carnevali of Yakima and Rick (Debbie) Carnevali of Walla Walla. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren, Mark Hanses of Seattle, Terri Hanses (Lester) Zirkle and Mike (Kristin) Hanses of Yakima, Lisa Carnevali (Chris) Dunn of Duvall, WA and Kevin Carnevali (Erica) of Houston, Texas. Rose is also survived by her brother, Rocce Logozzo of Seattle, and by nine great-grandchildren.
Preceding Rose in death were her husband Roy Carnevali of 55 years, her parents Sam and Elsie Logozzo, her sisters Rachel Logozzo and Amelia Gasperetti and brothers Andy Logozzo and Fred d’Amico.
A memorial Mass to celebrate Rose’s life will be on Friday, March 14th at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Holy Family Catholic Church. A luncheon in the Gathering Hall at the church will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations to be made to any of the following, in care of Keith and Keith Funeral Home, 902 West Yakima Ave, Yakima, WA 98902: the Cottage in the Meadow, The Union Gospel Mission or the charity of your choice.
