OBITUARY
Samuel Amaral-Gallaway
February 6, 1992 – September 27, 2012
Samuel F. Amaral-Gallaway of Yakima, 20 born in Redmond WA on February 6, 1992 was taken home late Thursday night, September 27, 2012. He and a fellow firefighter were returning to their base camp for work the next morning when they had an accident.
Samuel graduated from West Valley High School in 2010. While at WVHS, he loved playing baseball, time with his friends, classes, staff and administration, but most of all his experiences with the West Valley Firefighter Club. The club introduced Samuel to the passion of firefighting and the firefighters brotherhood. Samuel worked as a firefighter with the West Valley Fire Department and the Washington State Department of Natural Resources. He made many accomplishments within both organizations. Becoming a sawyer, operator of the chain saw, was a proud moment for him and one of the many achievements his parents treasure. Aside from the firehouse, Samuel was an avid outdoorsman, hunting, fishing and hiking. He shared the love of the mountains with family, friends, and his dog Abbey.
Samuel jumped to attention when his pager would sound. Throughout the house we could hear him yell “I got a call!” As he dashed out the door we would all run to wave him safe goodbye.
Samuel’s continual smile (except mornings :)) will now be waiting to greet his family members parents - Marc and Marci Gallaway, Samuel and Rosika Amaral, brothers -Tyler and Payton, sisters - Sofia and Megan, grandparents Frank and Deana Gonzalez, Chris and Don Heins, Gary and Jeanne Gallaway, Hector and Esperanza Amaral, Genaro and Rosa Humala and great-grandmother Virginia Bailey, Uncle Chad and Aunt Lorie, cousins Azaria and Madison Gallaway, Uncle Rick and Aunt Connie Colton, cousins Taylor and Krystyn Colton, Uncle Vincent Gonzalez and Meridith Vinansky. Samuel’s smile will also greet his extended sister Lacey Temple and her family Patrick, Tristen and Asher, extended parents Bob and Vickie Elkey extended Uncle Eric and Aunt Sue, Brian and Whitney, extended grandparents Grandma Buggy, Grandma Caroline and Grandpa Jim :).
Samuel’s memorial service will be held Saturday, October 6th at 1:00 p.m. at West Valley High School. To share a memory of Samuel, please visit www.keithandkeith.com.

The days I think about you are so bittersweet. Thinking back to all the memories we all created growing up together is amazing...you were truly a blessing to each and every person in your life. We all miss you so much more than you could imagine. It's still shocking to realize that you are gone, but I'm so glad to be able to say I'll see you again someday. I can't wait. I know you and your beautiful smile will be up there waiting for us all :) I was proud to call you family...even though we weren't really related, we were in heart and that's what matters. You were such a good big cousin to me while growing up. I always had the best times with you all at Big Camp. I'll never forget any of it. Memories will last a lifetime. I hope you're having fun up there, bud <3

I miss you every day angel. Words can not describe how much love I have always had for you. We had our life planned out from getting out of high school till the end. How many kids we were going to have, what we were going to name them (you always liked Silas), where we were going to live, everything, you name it, we had an answer for it. I can't help but to remember back to all of those times. I love you and I am helping out your family as much as i can.
Rest well my love, Ill be up there soon :)

I didn't know Sam very well throughout high school, but I could tell from a distance that he was a great person, and that his smile was contagious. My only regret is not knowing him better. My thoughts and prayers are among the many others being sent to the family.

The time Sam spent at our house was always enjoyable. A great kid with a mile wide smile. Always happy, always respectful. When the other boys were in the house playing video games, Sam would ask if he could use my pellet gun and go hunt the property. We wouldn't see him till dark! Our thoughts and prayers go out to Mark and Marcy and the family. Sam will always be remembered! Love, Kam and Juanita.

Sam
I remember when you first came to the department. At first, you seemed shy and quiet as you got your footing around us. Then you graduated High school and pulled a few shifts with me running some of our calls or just showing up at them when they were close by. I got to know you and how much you love our job and our commitment. Carry that with you as you begin your new job as a gaurdian angel watching over all your brothers and sisters. I, and everyone else at WVFD, will miss you. My prayers to your family Rest in peace brother.

Marci, Marc, and family--I have been praying for you since I heard. Words are inadequate, but may you find comfort in each other and in the Lord. I didn't know Samuel well, only through you two, but your love and pride in him were always so obvious--and I know he was a great big brother. Much love to all of your family.

I wasn't lucky enough to meet such an amazing friend (from what i have heard)... this is so tragic, he will be missed. No one never knows when it is time for them but when it is you have to learn to except it and realize that they are in a place where their is no hate but only love.

To the family, I hope that they take some small comfort in the pride of having raised a young man of such character. Our world was a little bit better for his willingness to serve; for that you can be very proud.

Sam, I may have not known you very well, but I have always thought you were a wonderful person. You were always so kind to others. You also had an amazing smile that could light up a room. I could also see how passionate you were about baseball and especially firefighting. I admire your passion and respect you greatly for all that you did at the fire department. It takes a truly courageous and special person like yourself to risk your life fighting fires. The class of 2010 has lost an incredible person and you will be deeply missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to your family and friends during this difficult time.
