Sheila Marie Burns passed away Saturday, April 21, 2018 in Yakima Wash. after a short illness. She was born in Yakima to George and Marie Long on Oct. 3, 1947 and graduated from Davis High School in 1966.
The first of Sheila's three proudest moments in life was purchasing YCCS in 1976 and beginning her life-long career in the collection business. The birth of her one and only son, Richard Christensen, in 1977 was her second. And her third and greatest moment in life was at the birth of her grandson, Richard Christensen III (Tripp) on Nov. 3, 2014.
Sheila's professional career did not begin as smoothly as others. She was a woman in a man's world, but she overcame all of the obstacles that were put in front of her and was successful.
Sheila was a long-standing member and former president of the Yakima Chamber of Commerce. She also was involved in several professional organizations including the American Collectors Association, the Washington Collectors Association and the Western Collectors Association. Her motto in work and life was, "fair but firm.”
Sheila was a member and board member of the 26A club. She also was a member of the American Legion, and was president of the group's auxiliary organization.
Sheila is survived by her son, Richard Lee Christensen Jr., her grandson Richard Lee Christensen III (Tripp), and her granddaughter Sherry Anne Lyon. She is also survived by her aunt, Honey Wilson from Abilene, Texas, and numerous nieces and nephews, a cousin and too many friends to list. She was preceded in death by her parents George Elmo Long and Marie Long, her brother George Ross and her sister Marquita Clark, and her precious Bella Marie.
A viewing will be held at Keith and Keith on Monday, April 30, 2018 from 4 to 8 pm. Services will be Tuesday, May 1 at 11 am at Keith and Keith. Burial at West Hills Cemetery will follow and a reception will be held at Red Lion Hotel from 1 to 5 pm.
