Shirley Ann Doan, our mom, grandma, sister and best friend whom we love dearly and who will be greatly missed passed away on March 24th, 2019 after a courageous and long-fought battle with cancer. She was surrounded by family and friends who comforted and gave her much love and support. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at North Star and Cottage in the Meadow who were loving and kind in their care of our mom.
She was born August 29th, 1943 in Bottineau, North Dakota to Lloyd and Mary Anderson. She grew up on the family farm in Dunseith, North Dakota with her brothers – Lawrence, Warren and Charlie and sister Mary. There she learned hard work, patience and dedication and passed those traits on to the ones she loved.
On July 14th, 1962 she married the love of her life Charles W. Doan Jr. in Los Angeles, California, and they started a family. In 1974 the family moved and called Yakima, WA their home.
Shirley worked as a home care provider for many years before her retirement in 2007. She enjoyed taking care of the many elderly patients she cared for. She spent the early years of her life raising her family and lovingly caring for their needs.
All those that knew her have fond memories spending time with her and sharing in life’s pleasures and disappointments. Mom’s home was always open to family. She loved gardening and the many varieties of flowers that grew brought her much pleasure.
As her health declined our dear brother Gary took exceptional good care of mom for which we will always be grateful.
She is survived by three sons: Charles W. Doan III and his wife Judy, Wayne T. Doan and Gary B. Doan; one daughter: Christy A. Doan; 12 grandchildren: Staci Doan, Tony Doan and his wife Kristina, Andy Doan and his wife Tessa, Zachary Doan and his wife Bethany, Kendra Korynta and her husband Tyler, Dakota and Elizabeth Doan, Rebekah and Ashley Doan, Lachlin Urlacher, Justice Snow and Bryanna Dempsey; 11 great grandchildren; one sister: Mary Millang; three brothers: Lawrence, Warren and Charlie Anderson; and many more friends and relatives.
