Steven Douglas Forney, the third child born to to Don and Jeanne Forney on July 18, 1941, passed away at the home he designed and helped build, on February 20, 2024, with his loves by his side-his wife Priscilla and their faithful companion, Buster.
His childhood was as a farm boy, growing up on Naches Heights. He later became a proud Highland High Scottie. As a farm boy, he learned at an early age to drive tractors, forklifts and cars. A terrific work ethic was instilled, and he maintained this work ethic throughout his life.
While in school, he never earned straight A’s, but he did become the consummate tinkerer. His favorite class in school was Shop! He could look at a pile of stuff (often junk) and in his mind’s eye see what it could become and then assemble it into something unique and useful.
Steve was a true outdoorsman – hunting for moose in Canada, boating and fishing in Canadian waters, snorkeling in the Caribbean and horseback riding in the Cascades with his long-time friend, Leon Burnham. On the slopes slalom skiing, he could keep a quarter held between his knees-every mogul, every run, every time!
At one time he even owned a herd of buffalo. He didn’t think that was peculiar or unusual. Why would he? He was a man of endless curiosity and a myriad of interests.
After high school, Steve joined the Air Force and served our country in Vietnam and later in Japan and Libya. “Doy testa mustay” was a familiar refrain he learned while in the Service and his use of it at home made all his family and friends laugh.
His business adventures included being an early grower of potatoes and apples in the Quincy basin with Forney Fruit, and most recently MTHousing, converting shipping containers into modular housing for mining, fishing, and migrant housing camps.
The single best decision Steve ever made was in 1985 at Haleiana’s when he asked Priscilla Bradley (nee Colvin) to dance. They were married and shared 39 truly happy years together. Steve adored Priscilla. She was the love of his life and soul mate.
Steve was proud of his only child, Todd, who has become a true adventurer – scaling the major rock climbs of the world and sailing to and around the South Pacific. Todd presently resides with his family in Phuket Thailand.
Steve is survived by his wife, Priscilla, her sons, Jeff (Laura) Bradley, Steven (JoAnne) Bradley; his son Todd (Janet); his grandchildren-Himalaya, Amihan Star, Michael, Sydney, Beau and Colt; his sisters Pat Erickson and Carolyn Wilson and their families; and many. many friends.
All will miss him dearly.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made in Steve’s name to Children’s Village.
