Susan Ann Westergard was born on January 12, 1951 at Kitsap Military Hospital in Bremerton Washington. She was adopted by Gerald and Dorothea Battson, and taken home in a snowstorm on January 20, 1951. Susan grew up in Poulsbo, and later Bothell, with older brothers Don, Lynn, and Larry.
In her childhood, they travelled extensively, visiting every state in the US except for Alaska and Hawaii. She graduated from high school in Bothell Washington in 1969. She went to Rick’s College in Rexburg Idaho, where she met the love of her life, Steven Westergard the day before her second year there. On December 31, 1970 Steven and Susan were married, and settled in Salt Lake City Utah to begin their life together, moving on to Idaho Falls, Bothell Washington, to finally settle in Yakima Washington for the remainder of her time with us. She first became a mother on December 3, 1971, and over the next 10 years they had 4 more children together.
Susan dedicated her life to being a wife and mother, as her family was everything to her. Her children were her world, and knew they were so loved by her. She is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Steven, and all 5 of her children; Seth of Clinton Maryland, Sarah of Spirit Lake Idaho, Sam of Selah Washington, Sasha and Skye of Yakima Washington.
Susan always knew she was adopted, and she always wondered what her birth family was like. In 2014 she was able to find out who her birth mother was, and later her birth father, 2 sisters, 4 brothers, and some cousins. She has been able to get to know many of them, and has formed a strong bond with them. Susan was so happy to be able to find out who her other family was, and this made her very happy in her later years.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents, Gerald and Dorothea Battson, her birth parents, and her brother Lynn. She is survived by 4 brothers, 2 sisters, 5 children, and 19 grandchildren. She loved, and was loved by many in her time on earth, and will be remembered by all. She always loved fireworks, and enjoyed watching them on her wedding anniversary every year, and the 4th of July.
Susan left this earth on July 4th, 2021. She is in heaven surrounded by all of her family that had passed before her, and she will watch over the rest of us from above, until we all meet again. Families are forever was her belief in life, and we will all be together again in death…Together Forever, Amen.
