Talia was born on April 23, 1983 to Jackie and Deborah McLain in Yakima, Washington. She joined a sister, Eugenia, to complete their family. She was a cheerful, curly haired girl growing up in Selah and at Magic’s Pizza Shack. Tally’s family included her grandparents – Eugene and Juanita Sommers and Robert and Wanda McLain, her parents, daughter – Lyla, sister – Gena, brother-in-law – Ryan, nephew – Aidan, and niece – Adley. Family was always important to Tally and she was important to us. We all miss her so much.
Tally attended Selah schools, graduating from Selah High School in 2001. Tally and her family had many adventures through AAU Basketball traveling around the country with the team of close friends. At Selah High School, she played volleyball, basketball, track and golf; made many lifelong friends; and worked at Magic’s Pizza Shack, while going to school. After graduation, she attended and graduated from Washington State University in Pullman, Washington with a degree in Restaurant and Hotel Management in 2005. With a degree in hand, she moved to Puyallup, Washington and used her degree in a management position at The Old Spaghetti Factory in Tacoma for a year.
In 2007, Tally moved back to Selah to take over as the manager of Magic’s Pizza Shack, where she worked until her passing. She worked alongside her parents for these 11 years and we loved seeing her and working with her each day in the place that is an extension of our home. She worked alongside many longtime employees and formed bonds with them. She appreciated each and every member of her staff. Our family, employees and customers will all miss seeing Tally smile and wave from the kitchen.
On September 25, 2008, Tally gave birth to the light of her life, Lyla Jean McLain. Tally was married to Dustin Rundgren and he became Lyla’s “Daddy.” Tally and Dustin remained friends and Lyla loves him very much.
Tally was an amazing mom to Lyla and loved her daughter to the moon and back. Tally balanced being a single-mom with a full time job amazingly well. Tally and Lyla had many amazing adventures together. Lyla admired Tally for being funny, brilliant, pretty, being a really good mom, and making poofy cookies. Recently, Tally began coaching an AAU Basketball team for Lyla and her friends. She was very excited about this and enjoyed coaching with this group of girls and their parents.
Tally was a wonderful, fun, loving aunt to Aidan and Adley, hosting many sleepovers where they made cookies, watched movies, and rocked out! Tally and the three kids had such a close bond and they looked forward to these times together any chance they could get.
We enjoyed many vacations and holidays together as a family. Summers included a trip to Lake Roosevelt each year where our family has camped and boated with lifelong friends including the Helms and Jones families and many others. Tally enjoyed traveling and journeyed with friends and family to many places including Ireland, the Caribbean, the Oregon Coast, Leavenworth, and most recently Orlando to one of our family favorites – Walt Disney World.
Tally was an excellent cook and each year she proudly hosted our family Thanksgiving celebration, including a sleepover the night before. Her home was always warm and welcoming and she enjoyed serving a delicious meal, watching football, and winning at most card games we played.
Tally was preceded in death by her Papa and Granny Sommers and her Papa and Granny McLain. She will be remembered by her daughter Lyla, her parents Jackie and Debbie, her sister Gena Franklin, her brother-in-law Ryan Franklin, her nephew Aidan, her niece Adley, and her dog Chance.
