My brother, Kenneth, turned 6 in September 1951, when siblings Billy 4, Wanda almost 3, Sandy, 14 months old then I came along in Dec. of '51.  He'd end up in charge of all of us while our dad would leave from sunup to sundown to be with our mom in the hospital 75 miles away until she then died-age 29.   Kenneth had a theme in talking with me always; reminding me he'd changed my diapers and I'd better behave, but he gave me a hard time lovingly, always making me smile when I needed it the most.  He spent his life taking care of us and then our dad, until he died in '59, grandparents, and always side by side with Billy.  Marrying, having kids and grandkids gave him a purpose-his highest calling-to be a good husband, dad and granddad.  He made me laugh when I wanted to cry,  and encouraged me to never give up. He'd remind me I had the Gazzaway blood in me making me tough enough to get through.Ironic his heart gave out; it was bigger then Texas, so "Tex" suited him as a nickname. His path was never easy. Lesser boys and men would have given up or done nothing but get into trouble.  He faced it all and built a life to be proud of with family that was his life.  His enormous presence, love and care in all our lives leaves a vacuum that makes it hard to breathe.  There was never enough time to spend with my brother, life got in the way, but our conversations held me up. I saved the best of his stories in recordings & will listen to them when the wound's not so fresh and my tears slow. He'll be forever cherished through his stories, his voice, and knowing his unconditional love. I pray for comfort for his dearest family.  Thank you for taking such good care of him, kids. The Gazzaway bloodline is strong; exemplifies toughness, independence-all that he preached.  I'll hear his laughter in the echos of the thunder. Life on earth will never be the same - will miss him and my brother Billy until I meet them again on the other side, where we'll finally be together forever.
