

Tommy Richard Hughes, 77, passed away April 2, 2015 after an extended illness. Tom was born September 6, 1937 in Commerce, OK to William and Mary Hughes. The family moved around a lot before settling in Yakima in the late 1940’s. He joined the Navy in 1955 and served in the Pacific returning home after his enlistment expired. He worked several jobs until he went to work for John I. Haas where he was employed until his retirement. Tom also served in the Army reserved attached to the 737th Transportation Company at the Yakima Training Center retiring as a Staff Sergeant. He married Shirley Graves November 3, 1978. Together they worked their hobby farm raising and doctoring cattle for many years. He also loved tinkering with cars. His pride was his 1967 Pontiac Lemans.
Tom is survived by his wife, Shirley Hughes of 36 years, 7 children, Billy Hughes, Sheryl Edwards (Curtis Johns), Lanny Hughes (Julie), Sissie Hughes, Pam Schut (Daniel), Barbara Froehlich (Vince) and Jimmy Hughes; 24 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Siblings, Joyce Gallert, Leonard Hughes (Helen), Sue Alexander (Brian), Darlene Kemp and Kathy Gallert (Nick). He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Eddie Hughes, brother Bill Hughes, sisters, Kathleen Hughes, Sheryl Hughes and Johnnie May Hughes Donges.
Viewing will be Thursday, April 9, 2015 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Keith & Keith Funeral Home.
A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, April 10th at 3:00 PM also at Keith & Keith Funeral Home.
Please dress casual because that is the way Tom would want it. Jeans are appropriate.
