Verna Seabrands 96, went to be with her Lord and Savior on October 16, 2023. She was the eldest Carl & Hildur Nystrom. Born and raised on Wiley Heights, Verna had a wonderful childhood growing up on her parents' orchard/farm. Verna graduated from Yakima High and worked as an executive secretary at Picatti Brother's until she married Walter in 1957. Verna and Walter then spent the next 67 years together building a home in Yakima, raising their children and being very active members of Ahtanum Pioneer Church where Verna was Director of VBS for many years as well as being on the Deaconess board. Verna was an excellent cook and hostess and she loved entertaining family, friends and visiting missionaries in their home. Being born into a Swedish family, Verna inherited the tradition of Fika - "coffee time" this was a tradition that was handed down in the family and Verna continued it with her children and especially her grandchildren. Many treasured memories of Grandma involve "coffee time".
After Walter's retirement in 1984, they were able to plan a trip of a lifetime to Europe. They loved it so much they went back a second time before turning their travel love to trailer camping. They spent much of that time with a group of friends from church - camping, golfing and playing Dominos.
In the months since Walter's passing in April, Verna has continued in her love of reading the bible, singing hymns with her daughter and playing bingo with her fellow residents. Even in her last days she could still hum some of her favorite hymns and loved hearing the Psalms being read to her.
Verna is survived by her two children: Jan Seabrands of Vancouver, WA and Don Seabrands of Walla Walla and her 4 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
The family would love to thank the staff at Brookdale Vancouver Stonebridge and her Hospice team for the love and care given to both Mom and Dad during their time there. We love and appreciate you all so much!
