Violet B. "Vi" Emerson passed away peacefully on November 20, 2011 at Covenant House Adult Family Home. Violet was born June 1, 1923 to George and Caroline (Steckler) Langton in Pembina, North Dakota. She attended the Langton School until age 15, when the family moved to Williams, MN. Vi worked in the local grocery store in Williams for several years. She married Alvin L. "Bud" Emerson at the Pilgrim Congregational Church in Williams. They operated a dairy farm until relocating to Yakima, WA in 1954. Together they raised two daughters, Wanda and Rita.
Vi was a stay-at-home wife and Mom except for a few part-time jobs she held while her daughters were in high school. She took pride in her home and family and made birthdays and holidays very special. She was an accomplished seamstress and sewed most of her own clothes as well as beautiful dresses for her daughters until she taught them both to sew. Vi loved to prepare wonderful meals for her family and friends, especially on holidays. She grew a garden every year and home canned and preserved all the produce. Her greatest talent was making home made pies.
Vi and Bud purchased land in Moxee and built their home in 1972 where they lived until 2002 when Bud's health made it necessary for them to move to a senior mobile home park in Yakima. Their daughters and grandchildren will cherish memories of visiting "the farm."
Vi was a member of United Christian Church, formerly First Congregational Church, where she was a member of the Clara Hartman Club. This organization cut and sewed quilts for the needy as well as participating in other church activities.
Vi is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Rita and Mike Mantey of Moxee, her son-in-law Ralph Deutscher, three grandchildren, Scott McKee, Angella (Deutscher) Vezina and husband Ray, and Marsha Deutscher, all of Yakima. She is also survived by one brother and sister-in-law, Ted and Myrtle Langton of Columbia Falls, MT, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Caroline Langton, brothers, Charles, Donald and Dennis Langton, sister, Nellie Solien, her husband, Bud Emerson, her daughter, Wanda Deutscher, and her two beloved cats, Kitty and Rascal.
Special thanks and gratitude to Del & Cheryl Miles and the caregivers at Covenant House for your compassion & caring. Vi’s family will be forever grateful.
Visitation will be 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, November 28, 2011 at Keith & Keith Ninth Avenue Chapel. A Memorial Service will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 29th at Keith & Keith Terrace Heights Chapel.
