Vivian Kahn

In Vivian’s own words, “I was born in Miami on April 16 at Victoria Hospital - private room.” She passed away on September 30, 2018 at Chandler House Rehab Center, Yakima, WA predeceased by her parents Frank & Hannah Kahn of Miami, FL. Vivian is survived by her two older brothers, Dr. Melvin Kahn of Wichita, KS and Judge Daniel Kahn of Yakima, WA and by her cousin Leslie Aronovitz of Charlotte, NC.

Despite her congenital affliction with Down Syndrome, Vivian enjoyed a remarkable and full life including ocean cruises with family and meaningful employment. In Miami, where she had spent her initial 45 years, she knew a myriad of phone numbers that she would dial for her mother when requested. Moreover, in Everett, WA she worked at the county courthouse performing such tasks as copying and assembling legal documents under the supervision of Work Opportunities of Lynnwood, WA, which provides training and jobs for handicapped members of the community.

Throughout her entire life, Vivian enjoyed the love and support of her family and those who knew her, especially her Aunt Sylvia, her cousin Leslie and her sister-in-law Phyllis who along with her husband Dan provided guardianship and home care for 18 years following the death of her mother.

In her earlier years, Vivian knew many songs and was an accomplished dancer. She took great pride in her status as a favorite aunt to her nieces Sheri Greenberg of Chicago, IL, Miriam of Raleigh, NC, Geri Catton of Yakima, WA, Lelia of Kensingston, MD, and her nephew, David Kahn of Birmingham, AL. She was very proud that she had her own checking account and happily sent birthday checks to her youngest relatives.

Vivian Dale Kahn was a great source of joy to those who knew her; and we will all miss her unconditional love. May the Lord bless and keep her in your Heavenly Home.
