Anthony Joseph Lisa

Cumberland- Anthony J Lisa, 77, passed away on Easter Sunday, April 4, 2021 at the Maine Veteran’s Home in Scarborough. The Son of Anthony and Angelina Magazu Lisa, he was born on April 27, 1943 in Philadelphia. Although initially an only child, he was raised in a large extended Italian family in Gibbstown, New Jersey. He enjoyed his status as the firstborn grandchild and favorite cousin of many. Anthony was an athlete and enjoyed playing baseball and football. He graduated from the University Of Notre Dame with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and had a ROTC scholarship in the United States Air Force.

After college he served four years at Hill AFB in Utah where he used his engineering degree in military support for troops during the war in Viet Nam. In his free time he enjoyed hunting and fishing in Utah, as well as taking art classes at a local university. Following his military discharge, he took a job in the Boston office of the Trane Corporation. When a position opened in Maine, he eagerly traded city life for life in Maine, settling in Cumberland in 1970.

Once in the Portland area he worked for a number of engineering firms before starting Lisa & Whitney Engineering. When he retired in 2005, he began teaching an Honors Engineering class at Cape Elizabeth High School which he continued for four years before finally settling into retirement. Once he retired, Tony renewed his passion for his artwork. He did numerous sketches of historic Maine events and scenes for the Maine Historical Society and the Cumberland Historical Society. He then expanded his drawing to nature, animals, birds, scenery of travels and events involving grandchildren and family members.

Tony treasured family above all else and was proud of his three children and beloved stepfather to his two bonus daughters. He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Kathleen Lisa, sons Brandon (Jeremy Young) and Owen (Elinor) and daughter Sarah Lisa Petrauschke (Brian) of Arizona, bonus daughters Melissa (David) and Sarah Flayter (Richard) both of Wisconsin. His much loved grandchildren are Nolan and Miriam Petrauschke, Henry and Annie Lisa, Samuel, Catherine and Nicholas Charnon and Anthony and Josef Bertram. He is further survived by his sisters Roseanne Lisa Lonetti and Catherine Lisa and their mother Serena Lisa of New Jersey.

Anthony was a member of Sacred Heart parish in Yarmouth where he enjoyed the community and comradery of fellow Notre Dame Football and Red Sox fans. Tony was a warm, caring man with a generous soul and a wonderful sense of humor. He loved his family, lifelong friends, neighborhood kids and pets.

Services will be held at a later date due to the pandemic and will be handled by Lindquist Funeral Home in Yarmouth. In lieu of flowers the family encourages support of the Cumberland Food Pantry or the American Alzheimer’s Association The family would like to express appreciation to the caregivers at the Maine Veterans Home in Scarborough where Tony spent his final months.
