

She was born on August 31, 1919 in Brunswick Maine, the daughter of Xavier and Sylvia Lavoie.
In 1938, she married Carroll “Red” Niles. They made their home in Freeport where they raised their two children. The family spent many summers at their camp on Flying Point.
In retirement, Bertha and Red took several Maine Line trips, travelled and even took a cruise. They enjoyed their many friends. Bertha loved company and enjoyed cooking, the more family & friends the better. Many neighbors and friends were the recipients of her famous fish chowder and her mile-high biscuits. She will be missed on many levels.
Bertha was predeceased by her loving husband “Red”; 2 Brothers; Robert and Nel Lavoie; 5 sisters, Charlotte Cormier, Lucille Iovine, Frances Brockman Soule, Theresa Valcourt and Louise Noyes. She was also predeceased by her grandson, Kenny Menard and several nephews.
She is survived by her children Charlene Menard and her husband Kenneth of Rochester, NH and Keith Niles and his wife Cheryl of Westbrook, ME; 4 granddaughters; Lori Martel of Rochester, NH, Debra Gregoire of Wakefield, NH, Carol-Jean Lathrop of Berwick, ME and Jennifer Niles Cronshaw of Strafford, NH; 13 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.
In her childrens’ absence, her nephew and godson, George “Do-Do” Brockman was always on hand to help. They spent many hours together and “Aunt Bertha” so enjoyed his company. He was very special to her.
Visiting Hours will be held at 2:00 pm with a service to follow at 3:00 pm on Thursday, July 27, 2017 at Lindquist Funeral Home, 1 Mayberry Lane, Yarmouth. Interment will be private.
