

Yarmouth - Carlene Coffin Hincks, age 96, of Yarmouth passed away June 25, 2011 at Coastal Manor after a short illness. She was born in Yarmouth, the daughter of Carl C. and Ruby Heard Phipps Coffin. She attended Yarmouth schools, graduating from North Yarmouth Academy in 1932. Carlene graduated the Golden School of Beauty Culture in Portland in 1935. She was employed as a hairdresser for several years in Gray and several places in Portland. In 1943, she married Thomas F. Hincks who died in 1975.
She was a member of the First Parish Congregational Church of Yarmouth where she taught Sunday school and served on the Diaconate Committee. She was a charter member of the Twice Fifteen Club, a civic and social club in Yarmouth. She also belonged to several art clubs where she learned to paint in oils and watercolors.
Carlene learned to skate at the age of 9 and skated every year until the age of 71. Her other hobbies were hooking and braiding rugs, painting, gardening, dancing, swimming and taking long walks. In her later years, Carlene acquired an interest in genealogy researching both the Coffin and Heard families.
Her husband, her parents and her brother, Russell P. Coffin, predeceased her. Two nephews, Gary R. Coffin and his wife Nancy and Wayne E. Coffin and his wife Vivian along with several grand and great-grand nieces and nephews plus several cousins, survive her. Carlene will be missed by her many friends that she so easily made, both young and old.
