Our British “mum” lived life with a wisdom filled giving nature constantly evolving from her love of travel and aviation throughout her life. She was brave, courageous and unafraid to tackle new places and spaces. She left England at the age of 18 for world adventures and landed in Bermuda where she met her Navy pilot husband, Robert. She earned her pilot’s license without hesitation. She traveled the world with Robert starting with a beautiful Navy wedding in Bermuda. She was gracious with her children organizing trips all over the world. She gave her children experiences well beyond the US while enrolling 2 of the 3 children in various British schools during long stays in the UK. Her global perspective on life gave her unique passion and understanding for the human condition. She managed Brunswick Tour & Travel for years. Her attention to detail and care of all travelers was legendary. She worked long hours and still had a magic touch creating all cuisines for the family meals, while Robert was away for months at a time flying for the US Navy.
Her love of family and selfless nature shined through even more with her beloved grandchildren. With her husband, Robert, she spent countless hours in gymnasiums all over Maine following her grandchildren’s basketball games. She enjoyed following along with their hopes and dreams while wishing herself through sickness to meet her first great grandchild, beautiful Hadley Grace. It was easy to see but hard to accept that mom was ready to be with dad. She had the unique ability to challenge and motivate us all while repeatedly sharing sage advice and a strong shoulder when we were in need. We are so very grateful for her love and leadership of our family. A matriarch like few others. She will be admired, loved dearly and forever missed.
She was pre-deceased by the love of her life, Robert A. Palombo; her parents, Deanie and Nobby Clark.
She is survived by her children, Richard Alan Palombo (Gretchen), Joanne P. McCallie and Carolyn Clement (Brian), grandchildren, Maddie Bapst (Nick), Meg Palombo, Allie Clement, Sarah Cavallaro (Jack), John Wyatt McCallie, and Catie Palombo; great-grandchild, Hadley Grace Cavallaro; her brothers, David Clark (Catherine) and Andrew Clark (Sue).
There will be a private family celebration of life later this summer.
Our family would like to extend our most sincere thanks for the tender, full-service care that the employees at the Heron House provided. The care they provided was very special both to our mom and our entire family.
