Cousins Island, Yarmouth – A. Catherine England “Cathy” or “Cate”, 80, passed away early Thursday morning, January 13, 2011, at the Gosnell Hospice House in Scarborough.
Cathy was born in Lowell, Massachusetts on January 3, 1931, the second daughter of Robert and Alice (Higgins) Crowley.
She was always proud of her Cousins Island heritage and her distinction of having built the first modern year round home. It was completed at the same time the Cousins Island bridge was built in 1956. The England House proudly remains in the family today.
For many years, while living away, she worked in admissions in the Bon Secour Hospital in Methuen, MA. She later moved back home to Maine and spent many years working in admissions at Mercy Hospital in Portland until her retirement.
Her great joys in life were her large family, her dear and diverse friends, her gardening, her love of table settings, her porch, and her dog.
She is survived by her daughter Lynne Edwards, her son Jeffrey England, her sister Roberta Rowan, four grandchildren, and four great grand children.
A gathering and memorial service celebrating her life will be held entirely at Lindquist Funeral Home, One Mayberry Lane, Yarmouth on Thursday. Jan. 20, 2011 beginning at 3:00 PM, with a memorial service at 5:00 PM and a small reception from 5:30 to 6:30 PM.
