Chad Meier, 36

Yarmouth – Chad Mathew Meier, 36, of Yarmouth, died Saturday September 3, 2011 of injuries from an automobile accident. He was born on January 4, 1975 in Portland, ME a son of Mary (Grant) and William Meier. He was educated in Yarmouth and Lakeland, FL schools. As a youngster Chad excelled at drawing and applied that talent as an adult in his carpentry skills and craftsmanship. Over the years Chad worked as a carpenter for his father and a number of Cumberland County contractors.

Chad will be remembered as a simple man who took pleasure in the smaller things of life, be it a couple of whoopee pies from his father or watching the sunrise off Little John Island with a cup of coffee and his dog, Anna. Summers on Swan’s Island held a very special place in Chad’s memory. He also enjoyed camping in the woods in Raymond and he will be missed for the good times that were had around the campfire.

Chad will be remembered for his big heart and his willingness to do right and do good for anyone who needed help. Chad faced many challenges in his life, was making progress and he truly had a great love of others that was unconditional.

Chad is survived by his mother, Mary Mitchell and her husband Mitch of Cartersville, GA; his father, Bill Meier and his wife Colleen of Yarmouth; his brothers: JC Mitchell and his wife Karissa; Todd Meier and his wife Jen; Allen Meier and his wife Heather; his sister, Stephanie Jenness and her husband Dan; his grandfather, Ernest Grant of Scarborough and Chad will be missed by many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. I am one of Heather McCarter's best friends. She has shared many wonderful memories of Chad with me over the years. Although I only knew of him through her, I hope you can find comfort in knowing that those memories will continue to live on not only in her heart but in mine as well.

Bill,Colleen and family,
I am still in shock about the sudden, and tragic death of Chad.I am sure that you are still in shock and disbelief. It is not supposed to be this way. Parents should not have to bury their children!!!!
Take a small measure of comfort that so many share your grief. If I can help in anyway, please give me a call.
fondly, Dr. Dave Haskell

Bill & Family
Words cannot even begin to assist in subsiding the pain and confusion and anger that comes with the loss of a child, even when they are adults. We certainly lose parts of ourselves with the loss of our children. May struggles be over and he be at peace. Our thoughts prayers and sympathies are with you at this every difficult time. Mickey once said that "I am gone but certainly not forgotten". I am sure that Chad will be held close to many hearts and be source of many wonderful memories. We are truly very sorry for your loss.

I never had the chance to meet you but I know your mother Mary and her husband Mitch. They spoke of you often and were so proud of you. I hope you are at peace. I pray for your families strength to work through their loss of you and your smile and spirit. I am so very sorry.
