Dawn Hathaway Newell

April 12, 1967December 30, 2012

Dawn Newell, 45 Rangeley - Dawn Elizabeth Newell, 45, of Yarmouth, Maine, lost her life in a tragic snowmobile accident on Sunday, December 30th while riding in Rangeley, Maine. She was born on April 12, 1967 at Fort Knox, Kentucky, to Bruce and Judie Hathaway. She grew up and went to school in Yarmouth, Maine, graduating in 1985 from Yarmouth High School. Dawn was previously married to Ronnie Newell and lived in a beautiful home that Ron helped build in Durham, Maine. They had a son, Kyle Matthew, born to them in 1996. Dawn continued her education receiving her Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice at Andover College. She worked as a dispatcher for the Cumberland and Yarmouth Police Departments. She enjoyed riding ATV’s, snowmobiles, motorcycles and was an active member of the Ridin’ Steel Motorcycle Club. She frequently participated in motorcycle rides for various causes and charities. She loved hanging out with friends, but her life mostly revolved around her son, Kyle, to whom she was totally devoted. Although severely injured in an earlier snowmobile accident, she never complained and never let her disabilities slow her down. Dawn always had a smile on her face, was cheerful, outgoing and the epitome of “girls just want to have fun.” She lived her life her way and lived it to the fullest. Dawn is survived by her son Kyle Matthew Newell of Durham; her father Bruce Hathaway of Yarmouth; her mother Judie Bayles of Cape Coral, Florida; her brother Brett Hathaway of Chester, NH; her sister Katlyn Dennis of Cumming, GA and her brother Ryan Hathaway of South Grafton, MA. A celebration of Dawn’s life will be held on Monday January 7 beginning at 1PM at Lindquist Funeral Home, One Mayberry Lane, Yarmouth followed by a reception at the AMVETS Post #2 Hall, 178 North Road, Yarmouth. Please visit to view a video collage of Dawn’s life and to share your condolences, memories and tributes with her family. Dawn’s family would like to encourage donations in Dawn’s memory to: Susan G. Sending my deepest condolences to Dawn's family, friends and her pride and joy, Kyle. Dawn always lived life to the fullest, put the pedal to the metal and did it her way. I will never forget all the fun crazy times we shared! Dawn, the pure passion you had for life was just one of your fine qualities I admired. May we all learn to live life as you did,as no one is promised tomorrow. I am thankful to have known you and to be your friend, you made this world a better place just by being in it. Dawn always had a big beautiful smile on her face and that contagious laugh will remain with me forever. Kyle, your Mom would be so proud of you, stay strong and remember she is now your Guardian Angel watching over you and will walk beside you on this journey through life...
May all the wonderful memories you have of Dawn bring you strength and comfort to move forward. My heart breaks for all of you. Whenever I hear the song 'Who Knew' by P!NK I will think of you. Love you Dawn... forever in my heart, until we meet again my friend. God Bless You All.
