Happy Fathers Day, Dad.  You are deeply missed.  As I told you a year ago, when I saw you for the last time, your spirit lives on, and I still roam the mountains, thinking of our good times and our crazy sense of humour.

Dear Ann and Family
So sorry to hear of Don's passing. We worked together at the Library from 1973 until his retirement in 1994 and then kept in touch after that. Those early years were full of long days and hard work, but we didn't mind, as we were establishing the medical library to support the new State Medical School and its teaching hospital. As Library Director, Don was very interested in computer applications in libraries way back then and took great pride in our keypunch card system to manage acquisitions, our telex machine for communicating with the National Library of Medicine, and setting up our audio-visual department. His dry sense of humor often amused the staff as we busily went about our work. He was an intelligent and laid back kind of guy who enjoyed his country western music and painting his Northborough home himself, even though it took him four summers! He loved his family and often spoke of them. He was very active in the Worcester Area Cooperating Libraries group and was always willing to assist other libraries, librarians, and students of the other Worcester colleges in their educational endeavors. God bless you, Don, and Godspeed.

My condolences to the Morton family on the death of their father and husband.  I worked for Dr. Morton at the UMass Medical School Library and appreciated the work environment he created for his staff.

They broke the mold when they made you, Dad.  You were a genuine classic.  Your humour, your very deep thinking, your sense of adventure, your discipline.  I owe so much of who I am to you.  And, to paraphrase one of your favourite jokes, which I still tell to students....

Did you know that the UMMC Lamar Soutter Library was named after Don Morton?  Well, when was Don Morton named?  And, when was the Lamar Soutter Library named?

I miss you so much Dad, but I have a huge, huge smile for all the good times.  You were a classic, and there is a hole in the fabric of life now that you have passed.

Rest in  peace and contentment little brother.  You are surely missed by your family and those who knew you.

My condolences to the family and friends of Donald J.Morton. Don's intellectual gifts will live on with his research publications and in the legacy of the Lamar Soutter Library of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. It was my privilege to work for him for 17 years. Don was dedicated to making the library the best it could be. His quiet, unassuming manner was most effective in managing an important academic library. To him, his position of Library Director was both his vocation and his avocation. Don Morton possessed that rare combination of academic intelligence and common sense. He was, under his terms, a giant in his respective fields.

On behalf of the staff of the Lamar Soutter Library, our sympathies go out to his family and friends. His former colleagues remember him with fondness. His leadership served as a foundation for what the library has become today.

I am sorry to learn of "Dr. Morton's" passing.  I worked for him at the UMMC Library.  It was one of my first jobs in a library and he encouraged me to go to Library school.  I went to Simmons also and have had a varied and interesting career in several different types of libraries (am now retired).  We had a good and friendly group of colleagues under Dr. Morton's tutelage--some of whom I still run into.  My condolences to the family.
