
Freeport - Frank E. Garland III passed on peacefully at the age of 87, on Feb. 12, 2011 at Maine Medical Center with his family at his side. Frank was born in Tucson, Arizona on Jan. 31, 1924, son of Frank E. Garland II and Beulah Chandler Berry.
Frank worked for Maine Central Railroad for 41 years, retiring in 1984 as general foreman of Rigby Engine House in South Portland. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, giving his all to his family with unconditional love. They were his life. He created a family harmonica band called The Harmonica Kids that played at events throughout Maine and on local and national TV in the 1950’s and 60’s. He coached Little League Baseball in Freeport for several years.
Frank is survived by his wife of 65 years, Phyllis H. Garland, his three daughters: Ramona Campbell and her husband Edward; Donna Brewer and her husband Bradley; Tami Terpstra and her husband Gerard; his four sons: Frank E. Garland IV and his wife Janet; David Garland and his wife Deanna; Lawrence Garland; Stephen Garland and Catherine Kroot; his 17 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
