

Yarmouth – Gilberte A. Davis, 94, of Portland, passed away on January 9, 2011 at Coastal Manor in Yarmouth. Gilberte was born in Brunswick on June 5, 1916, the first daughter of Charles J. and Eva Gamache Charron. She spent her early years attending both St. John’s School and Brunswick High School.
Gilberte married John B. Davis in 1934 and became a housewife until 1943 and worked at BIW while her husband was in the Navy. Gilberte said that her two years on the “riveting gang” at BIW were hard but fun times.
Gilberte and John moved to Portland in 1955 where she immersed herself in gardening and entertaining her neighbors with her humorous and outgoing personality. She worked at Songo Shoe Company in Portland for a number of years. She was a devout Catholic and parishioner of St. Patrick’s Church.
In her later years, Gilberte and John enjoyed traveling to Florida, Hawaii, taking bus trips with Maine Tours and the many trips to Canada, especially Quebec City.
She is survived by her son Peter C. Davis and his wife Joyce of Yarmouth; her sister Venise Lewis of Brunswick; her granddaughters Robyn Davis of Portland and Cheryl Fullerton and her husband Mike of Carrabassett Valley; her great-granddaughters Rachel and Rebecca Fullerton of Gorham and her great-grandson David Fullerton of Orono. Other survivors include several nieces, nephews and in-laws. She was predeceased by her husband and her sister Nancy Giard.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday January 15, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 325 Main Street, Yarmouth, ME. A reception will follow in the church hall. Burial will be in the spring at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Brunswick.
