Freeport – Herbert E. Brewer, Sr., 76, of Freeport died at Mid-Coast Hospital in Brunswick on Thursday November 15, 2012 after a brief illness. He was born on May 10, 1936 in Freeport, one of six children of Richard C. and Jewel (Dennison) Brewer, Sr. He was educated in Freeport schools and was a lifelong resident of Freeport. Herb retired from LL Bean as a facilities security officer.
Herb had the good fortune to marry Janice Moser and together they had two sons. He enjoyed hunting and was a member of the Big Buck Club. He was mechanically talented and could fix just about anything. This was especially handy in restoring an old Ford Galaxy and a big Thunderbird. However, his love of antique cars was only outdone by his passion for flying. He obtained his pilot’s license when he was 50 and there was no keeping him down after that.
Herb can best be described as a simple man who was generous with his time and talent, who always gave more than he got; he will also be remembered for his fairness and his love of life itself.
Herb is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jan Brewer; his two sons: Herbie Brewer, Jr. and his companion Kristina Strout; Michael Brewer and his wife Susan; his beloved grandson Daniel Brewer, all of Freeport; his sister Martha Liscomb and her husband Ken of Topsham; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers: Richard and Oscar and two sisters: Eleanor and Dot.
It was Herb’s wish that there be no funeral services. A private family burial will be held in Grove Cemetery in Freeport. Please visit www.lindquistfuneralhome.com to share your condolences, memories and tributes with Herb’s family.
