Cumberland- James A (“Jimmy”) Gray passed away peacefully on October 19,2025 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House with his family surrounding him. Jim was a wonderful man who was kind, with a big heart and great sense of humor.
Jim was born in Waltham, MA in 1963. One of his cherished memories in childhood was meeting players on the Boston Bruins when he would ride on the MBTA train that his father operated. His family moved to a farm in Cape Elizabeth, ME in 1976 where he attended Cape Elizabeth High School and played baseball, ice hockey and worked on fast cars.
Jim attended Southern Maine Community College to earn his Associates Degree in Automotive Science which led to a long career as a well-known and highly respected Heavy Equipment Field Mechanic where he won First Place in a Komatsu Northern Region Advanced Technical Competition and accepted a management position with Komatsu of America. After a few years he began a long career as a Master Field Technician with Anderson Equipment Co.
Jim was very proud of his children and coached and cheered for them with Casco Bay and Greely hockey teams. He even made backyard skating rinks.
Jimmy loved the outdoors, proudly earning his Eagle Scout badge and volunteering with the Appalachian Mountain Club. He enjoyed camping, hiking, fishing, boating, skiing, snowmobiling and shared this passion with his wife and children. Jimmy loved spending time with his fishing buddies at Moosehead Lake and Caribou Lake for many years. Last year his life-long dream to visit Alaska came true where he caught Alaskan King Salmon.
Most of all, Jimmy was always willing and ready to help anyone in need. Especially if it involved fixing engines in cars, trucks, tractors and even sailboats. He was a wonderful husband and father. He was a good, generous man with a big heart and will be forever loved and missed by his family and friends.
Jim was predeceased by his father John Gray.
He is survived by his wife Diane (Langlais) Gray, son Ian Gray, daughter Michelle (Gray) Hill and her husband Dylan, grandson Arthur Hill, his mother Judy Gray, sister Cindy (Gray) Dussault and her husband Jim.
