

North Yarmouth- James W. Hayward, 84, passed away peacefully on February 10, 2016 with family by his side. He was born in North Yarmouth on November 24, 1931, a son of W. John and M. Lou Hayward. He was a graduate of Greely Institute, a life-long member, past deacon and trustee of the N. Yarmouth Congregational Church, a member of the Westcustogo grange, member of Granite Grange and life member of N. Yarmouth Fire Department as well as a long standing active member of the community of N. Yarmouth.
Bill will be remembered for his laughter and ability to make others smile. He enjoyed livestock and gardening. He met the love of his life Dorothy L. Hayward at the age of 13 and married her in 1951. Together they shared 65 years, raised three sons and had many years of laughter, friendship and happiness. A three metal CPL veteran of the Korean War, his education included pipe draftsman, wiring, insurance and telephone repair. He loved attending agricultural fairs and supporting his sons, grandchildren and great grandchildren in 4H projects. He lived as a snowbird for 17 years in both Naples and Arcadia Florida.
He was predeceased by his parents; a son, Dean W. Hayward; brother, Reid B. Hayward; sister, Verdell Barter.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy L. Hayward; sons, James W. Hayward and Andrew L. Hayward both of N. Yarmouth. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren who brought laughter and love into his life.
A funeral to celebrate his life will be held at 1 pm on Tuesday, February 16, 2016, at the North Yarmouth Congregational Church, 3 Gray Rd, North Yarmouth, ME . Burial in the spring will be at Walnut Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the North Yarmouth Congregational Church, 3 Gray Rd, North Yarmouth, ME 04097.
