Falmouth – Lawrence (Larry) N. Dolley, Jr., 92, passed away peacefully at his home on October 26, 2013. He was born in Portland on March 2, 1921 the son of Lawrence Dolley, Sr. and Ellen Hall Jensen and the stepson of Henry I. Jensen. He attended Falmouth schools and entered the military in 1941. He was trained as an aerial gunner and was stationed at Hickam Field in Hawaii during the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor. He later was transferred to Italy where he flew fourteen combat missions in a B24L as a belly gunner over Austria, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Italy and Germany. He flew with the 758th Bombardment Squadron and the 459th Bombardment group. He was discharged in 1945 with a Bronze Battle Star (Germany), E.A. M. E. Theater ribbon and two Air Medals.
Following his discharge, he married Lorraine Pettengill, his loving wife of 67 years. Lawrence loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman and hunter. Larry loved to tell stories about his experiences in the fields, woods and streams of Maine. Some of his favorites stem from his short stint as a guide out of Grace Pond Camps in Upper Enchanted Township in the late forties. He was particularly proud of his membership into the Biggest Bucks in Maine Club with a 225 pounder he shot in Andover. Larry enjoyed watching the old western movies and outdoor fishing and hunting shows on television.
After his military service Larry worked for the Maine Warden Service patrolling the forests in Franklin then in the Farmington area. He then worked for the Educator Biscuit Company as a route salesman and driver serving most of the state of Maine. Larry finally retired after working for Pineland Training Center as a groundskeeper and bus driver. In his retirement he drove cars for Avis Rental.
Larry is survived by his wife, Lorraine; his daughter Nadine Serber and husband Mark; his grandchildren: Deanna Gouzie and her husband Jeffrey; Christopher Serber and his wife Kimberly; his great-grandchildren: Daniel Gouzie, Eliza Gouzie, Tanner Gouzie, Addison Serber and Lilah Serber; his brother John Jensen and his wife Joannie.
