Linda Elaine DeCoster Morton, a cherished wife to Richard Morton, loving mother, and vibrant spirit, passed away peacefully on October 24, 2026, at Fallbrook Nursing Home in Portland, Maine, with her loved ones by her side.
Born on September 6, 1938, in Lewiston, Maine, Linda was a beacon of warmth, creativity, and humor to all who had the privilege of knowing her. The daughter of Eleanor and Warren DeCoster, Sr., Linda was raised alongside her three brothers, Warren, Jr (affectionately known as Sonny), Daryl (DeeDee), and John (Jackie), who all predeceased her.
Her early years were filled with adventures as an avid skier, girl scout, and figure skater. With courage and grace, Linda tested her brothers' ski jumps, often being the first to soar down the snowy slopes, a testament to her fearless spirit. Her talents extended to water skiing, where she mastered the art of skiing on a single ski. A proud graduate of Edward Little High School in 1956, Linda further pursued her passion for beauty and care by attending Mr. Bernard's School of Hair Fashion, Inc. She also completed a Certified Nursing Assistant program, showcasing her dedication to helping others. Linda's career began at Central Maine General Hospital (now CMMC) as a Candy Striper, where she brought comfort and smiles to patients. Her entrepreneurial spirit shone brightly when she opened Linda's Beauty Shoppe, a beloved establishment she ran for a decade. After re-marrying, Richard Morton, Sr. Linda moved to Rangeley, Maine, where her creative talents blossomed as a seamstress. She established a business (Country Stichin’s) in which she mended and crafted various items while specializing in making beautiful, personalized quilts, doing zipper replacements, and providing invaluable services to Appalachian Trail hikers and Saddleback Mountain adventurers. Linda's marriage to Richard was a beautiful partnership that spanned 41 years.
Linda was renowned for her quick wit and lighthearted irreverence, qualities that endeared her to all. Even in her later years, she brought joy and smiles to those around her, a testament to her enduring spirit. The family invites those who wish to honor Linda's memory to donate to a charity of their choice. Linda's love and creativity continue to grace our homes through her exquisite quilts, potholders, purses, baskets, and other crafts. Her legacy is one of love, laughter, and artistic beauty, forever cherished in the hearts of her family and friends.
She is survived by her sons, Jeffrey and Rodney Nadeau, and stepchildren, Richard Morton, Jr (Karen) and Debra Haslam (Patrick). Her family expanded with the addition of daughters-in-law Norma and Annie, and grandchildren Scot, Cory, Matt, Conor, and Emma Nadeau and her step-grandchildren, Jennifer and Jamie Morton, and her great-grandchildren, Mallory and Maurice Nadeau, with step-great-grandchildren Kendrick, Julian, Nova, Haylee, and Jack.
