Linda Mae Snowdon

Chebeague Island, Maine - Linda Mae Snowdon, 87, died peacefully surrounded by family on July 19th, 2026, in Portland, Maine. Born in Melrose, MA to Herbert and Dorothy Harriman, Linda grew up in Malden, MA where she graduated from Malden High School. After high school she worked as a secretary at Hood where she occasionally got to be an ice cream taster, which she later claimed to be her job there, much to the delight of her children. She was a loyal Girl Scout for 75 years as a member of Troop 57, and maintained lifelong friendships, including annual reunions until just a few years ago.

She met her husband Henry (Hank) Snowdon through mutual Malden friends, and they were married in 1961, with 56 years of happy marriage. They raised their family in Saugus, MA where they lived for 30 years on Oakwood Avenue. She was a homemaker and loving mother who supported her children in all their pursuits. She worked as a noon aide at a local school and after her kids got older, worked as an office administrator at Gibbs Oil and at an office supply company. Hank finished his career in Tucson, AZ where Linda enjoyed lunch with the ladies, golf, and pool time. They retired in Wolfeboro, NH in 2000 and joined the Newcomers Club and became members of All Saints Church where she volunteered at the church thrift shop Lord and Tailor alongside her sister Lorraine. After losing her husband she lived in Fort Myers, FL, but her heart was in New England, and she returned to Wolfeboro for five great years at Sugar Hill Retirement Community. With failing health, Linda moved to the Island Commons on Chebeague Island, ME for a short but wonderful stay near her daughter.

At every location and station in life, Linda cultivated a wide circle of friends. She loved generously and laughed freely. Her ready smile, cheerful outlook, and spunky sense of humor inspired joy in those around her. She loved to read, play games, and do handwork. She gave thoughtful gifts including handmade sweaters, dresses, mittens, and quilts; her American Girl doll clothes could rival anything store bought. For fun she occasionally gifted items As Seen on TV. Her homemade mac and cheese was legendary. For gatherings she organized scavenger hunts and toy rocket competitions, making cherished memories for her family. She sported bedazzled tops, matching accessories, and polished fingernails, and was never without her lip rouge and eyebrow pencil. Linda loved screened porches and raising a glass with family and friends, surrounded by love and laughter.

Linda was a woman of faith and embodied unconditional love. She said that she felt truly blessed in her life with a wonderful childhood, a great marriage, unbelievable relatives and friends, and most of all, three children, nine grandchildren, and one great grandchild. Her favorite words were “I love you” and her least favorite “goodbye.” She would want us all to eat some ice cream, laugh at a joke, and tell someone you love them.

Linda is survived by William and Carla Snowdon, and their children Quinn, Cooper, Sheriden and Savannah; Elizabeth and Mark Dyer, and their children Chloe and Genevieve (Alexander); Andrew and Jeanne Snowdon and their children Brooke (Jordan), Carly and Jack, great granddaughter Hazel, sister Lorraine Holley, and lifelong friend Sandra Rice. She was predeceased by her husband Hank and her brother David Harriman.

The Girl Scouts were founded so “every girl could unlock her full potential, find lifelong friends, and make the world a better place.” Mission accomplished for Linda.
