

Yarmouth – Margaret “Peg” (Collins) Batchelor, 95, formerly of Yarmouth, died in Portland on February 26, 2015, surrounded by her family. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 68 years, William “Buck” Batchelor.
She was born on December 6, 1919, in Portland, to the late Ernest Alfred Collins and Catherine Tupper Collins, was raised and educated in Portland and graduated from Portland High School. She moved to Yarmouth in 1943 and was a resident there for 66 years. She was a caring, generous person who devoted her life to her family.
She was self-employed in the marine worm business with her husband, Buck, for many years. She was very creative, loved participating in arts and crafts activities, was a master pie baker, and enjoyed gifting family and friends with her homemade buckeye balls. She was a member of the MOCAGA neighborhood club and was a member of the Yarmouth Grange for 48 years, holding offices in this organization.
Peg was predeceased by daughter, Catherine Forbes, wife of Freeman Forbes, and an infant son, William Earl Batchelor. She is survived by daughters Sandra Hudon and her husband, Armand; Geraldine “Geri” Hayward and her husband, Dale; sons William “Buck” Batchelor, Jr. and his special friend, Cheryle Owen; and Franklin Earl Batchelor and his wife, Betsy; 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren. She was also predeceased by brothers Alfred, Stuart and Beverly Collins and sisters Doris Prindal, Lillian McGee and Anna Curit.
Peg loved her family and enjoyed the close relationships she formed with her friends and the staff at Birchwoods at Canco Assisted Living Community. The bingo games, variety of activities and interesting field trips were highlights of her residency there.
