February 14,1935 to June 7, 2026
Margaret Yvonne (Bolduc) Leighton passed away quietly in her sleep with family at her side on June 7, 2026 at Gosnell House in Scarborough.
Margaret was born on February 14, 1935 in Cumberland, Maine to Edward and Marie Bolduc, the fourth of five children and only daughter. She was raised in Cumberland and graduated from Greely Institute in 1953. She remained connected to high school classmates up to the time of her death. As a child, she spent many hours playing at the Longwoods Road train depot, riding her bike with her pet crow “Tobey Jim” on her handlebars, and with the Corey family at their dairy farm on Corey Road.
Margaret met her husband, Bob, when she was a junior in high school and they were married on September 4, 1954, enjoying 66 years of marriage until Bob’s death in 2021. They spent most of their married life in Cumberland raising their three children Susan, Dennie, and Greg before retiring to The Villages, Florida, where they had many friends, enjoyed dancing at the squares, and playing golf. Margaret had three holes-in-one in her lifetime – a fact she pointed out to Dennie and Greg whenever they played together. Margaret returned to Maine after Bob’s death, and spent the last few years at the Holiday Woods of Canco in Portland.
After high school, Margaret attended New England Business School. She worked at Maine Central Railroad for three years before staying home with her young family. She returned to work in 1967, in a position she is best known for, as the secretary at Greely Junior High School for over 25 years. While at the Junior High, she knew every child, and most families, who passed through the school. She became an institution at the Junior High, making many friends with teachers and staff, and was honored by the Maine Principals Association for her dedicated service.
Margaret most loved living in Cumberland near her parents and brothers. The Bolducs/Leightons had epic holiday gatherings and legendary weddings and receptions. In her later years she could be found cheering and attending all her grandchildren’s many events and sports games, and playing and cooking with them all.
Margaret was pre-deceased by her husband Bob, parents Eddie and Marie, her four brothers Gerard, Roger, Edward, and Philip, in-laws Ralph and Alice Leighton, Roger and Lawrence Leighton and daughter-in-law Erin Leighton. She is survived by her children Susan (Doug) Brown, Dennis Leighton, and Gregory (Vicki) Leighton, grandchildren Robert, Jessica (Danny), Matthew (Carly), Devon (Sean), Brett (Anna), Amanda, and Brad (Kaleigh), great-grandchildren Aiden, Cayden, Colby, Casey, Spencer, Madison, Wesley, Kylie, and Azalea, sisters-in-law Lorraine Webber, Fay and Donna Bolduc, and Bertha Gardiner, and many nieces and nephews with whom she shared special bonds.
Friends and family are invited to A Time of Visitation on Friday, June 26 from 3 PM to 6 PM at Lindquist Funeral Home in Yarmouth. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday June 27 at 11 AM at Sacred Heart Church in Yarmouth. Burial will follow at Moss Side Cemetery in Cumberland. A reception follows at Val Halla Golf course in Cumberland from 1 PM to 4 PM.
The family wishes to express gratitude to the exceptional care Margaret received at Holiday Woods at Canco, Loving Angels Senior Care, New England Cancer Specialists, and Gosnell House.
