Marie Elizabeth Forbes, born on February 11, 1964 in Portland, Maine, lost her valiant battle with cancer on Sunday July 20, 2025 at MaineHealth Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick, Maine, surrounded by loved ones.

Several close friends became Marie’s chosen family, including her chosen brother Peter Callnan, with husband John Hennessy, of Portland; sister Mari Smith of Pownal; sister Amanda Manning of West Gardiner, Maine and Florida; and many young colleagues that she called “her kids” who were very near and dear to her heart.
As anyone who knew her could tell you, Marie was an exceptionally warm, caring, authentic, hard-working leader and mentor. Gifted with an amazing ability to communicate and connect with people, she spent her entire life in sales and management, starting off in her early teens in retail and quickly moving into and then up to the very top of the car business. For the last 18 years of her life, Marie worked for the Key Auto Group, culminating in her position as the General Manager of Key Ford of Rockland, Maine.
Marie was an avid, skilled motorcyclist and loved driving fast in her Corvette convertible. She spent hours with friends and family around the cribbage board, almost always winning and frequently skunking her opponents. She enjoyed music and being near the ocean. She relished looking out onto the Hampton Beach harbor from the home she shared for many years with Jack.
She was cherished by family, friends, co-workers, and customers who were all touched by her sweetness, her joy, her passion for life, and her special spark of light and love which shone so very brightly—and left us decades too soon.
Marie was strengthened and greatly comforted by her deep faith in God. May her memory be a blessing to us all.
Friends and family are invited to Celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday August 2nd at 11am at Sacred Heart Church, 326 Main Street in Yarmouth, Maine followed by her Celebration of Life reception from 12:30 pm- 3 pm at the Pownal First Parish Congressional Church, 422 Hallowell Road, in Pownal, Maine (Pownal Center).
