Durham – Mary Ann (Dugas) Kilton, 92, of Durham passed away Sunday, Dec. 20, 2015 at her home, surrounded by family, after a brief illness. She was born and raised in Yarmouth, the oldest of six children of Adolphus and Cecile (Cormier) Dugas. Ann, as her family and friends knew her, graduated from North Yarmouth Academy where she played violin in the school band. She went on to complete a year of business school in Portland after which she was employed for many years as a secretary at L.L. Bean. In 1964, she married Milford Harland Kilton of Freeport and together they had two sons. Following her employment with L. L. Bean, Ann and her husband Milford opened their home to adults with cognitive disabilities and provided group home care for six young women for many years before retiring.
Longstanding members of the St. Jude’s Parish in Freeport, Ann and Milford were both Eucharistic ministers. They regularly administered to residents of local nursing homes and homebound members of the parish in need. In addition to her community work, Ann also had a love of music playing the piano, mandolin, and guitar and played the organ for her church for a period of time. Besides music, her flower gardens, birds and home making, Ann first and foremost had a love for her immediate and extended family.
She is preceded in death by her parents; five siblings, Joseph Arthur Dugas, Mary Louise (Dugas) Tibbetts, Joseph Edmund Dugas, Thomas Alfred Dugas and Mary Margaret (Dugas) Phipps; and by a son Christopher Kilton. Ann is survived by her husband, Milford Kilton; her son Gary Kilton and his wife Patty; her grandchildren: Zachary and Corey Kilton; fifteen nieces and nephews and twenty-two great nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by all.
The family would like to thank the staff of Hospice of Southern Maine for their dedicated care and support in our time of need.
