Cumberland, Maine- Matthew Grant Chandler age 43 of Cumberland, beloved son of John and Barbara Chandler, all of Cumberland, died at his home on July 31, 2016. He was born in Exeter, New Hampshire on July 26, 1973. He attended the Guy E. Rowe Elementary School in Norway, ME and then moved to Cumberland where he attended Greely Jr. High and graduated from Greely High School in the Class of 1993. He ran Cross Country and Track and was on the Swim Team at Greely.
Matt worked at the Corporate Headquarters of Cole Haan Footwear for 19 years where he had many friends. When Cole Haan moved out of state, Matt found a new job a DMM (Direct Mail of Maine) in Scarborough, and a new group of friends to work with.
Matt was a confirmed member of the Congregational Church in Cumberland. He was a member of the Cumberland-North Yarmouth Lions Club for 20 years and was on the Board of Directors. He was Vice-President of the Moonlite Snow-Skimmers snowmobile club for several years. Matt ran 5K races to benefit charities in Cumberland and Oxford Counties. He loved the outdoors—brook fishing, lake fishing—even ice fishing! He enjoyed deer hunting and spending time at “The Cabin” at Hall Pond in South Paris and “The Camp” on Raymond Cape, Sebago Lake.
Matt was predeceased by his grandparents: Theodore and Marion Chandler and Gilbert and Ruth Marks. He will be greatly missed by his parents, his brother Jay and wife Rebecca and their children: Isabella, Grant, and Katharine Chandler, all of Cumberland, his uncle and aunt Woodrow, Jr. and Suzanne Groover of Windham, ME and Flagler Beach, FL, and his cousins: Woodrow Groover, III of Lewiston, Eric Groover of Syracuse, NY, and Janet Beaudoin of Lewiston and their families.
Matt is remembered for his beautiful smile and his kindness and gentle humor.
Friends and family are invited to attend a time of visitation Friday August 12, 2016 from 6:00P.M. to 8:00P.M. in the Cumberland Congregational Church 282 Main St. Cumberland, Maine. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, August 13, 2016 at the Cumberland Congregational Church. No interment is scheduled at this time.
