Phyllis was born in Waterville, on August 26, 1919, the daughter of Alfred A. Adams and Gladys Vandine Adams. She grew up in Waterville with her parents and 12 siblings of which she was the youngest. She graduated from Waterville High School and also went to Thomas Business College in Waterville. After college, she moved to Portland and took a job for Oakhurst Dairy as a Secretary to the President. She met her husband, Willard T. Fenderson, while working at Oakhurst and, together, they raised their children.
After her children were grown, Phyllis enjoyed a 25 year career as a Real Estate Broker. Her success and respect as a Realtor was due in large part, not only for her helpfulness but also her love for her customers, who would become part of her “family”. She had a passion for Real Estate and the people she met along the way. She and her husband were especially proud of their purchase of 28 acres of land in Yarmouth on Casco Bay, a development project called “Seaborne of Yarmouth”.
She was a member of the Yarmouth Historical Society, Village Improvement and the Garden Club. Phyllis also loved spending time on their 1939 Elco power boat cruising the coast of Maine and beyond. She also enjoyed golfing, reading, gardening and winter trips to Florida with her husband. The Red Sox was her favorite sports team. She had a sharp and wonderful sense of humor that permeated and sustained her and others her entire life. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and will be deeply missed by family and friends.
Phyllis was predeceased by her husband, Willard T. Fenderson who she missed every day. She is survived by her 5 children and their spouses: Jeff and Marilyn Powers of Westbrook, John and Aileen Powers of Scarborough, Willard A. and Faith Fenderson of Gorham, Carolyn and recently deceased husband, Eugene Libby of Rhode Island and Barbara Fenderson-Elephtheriou and husband Dr. Basil Elephtheriou of Mount Desert Island; and many, many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
