Phyllis was the daughter of Philip T. and Grace (Osgood) Prince. Her family moved to Cumberland, Maine in 1924. After her father’s passing, she and her mother lived in the Cumberland and Brunswick area. In 1927, her mother married Robert A. Ross and continued to live in the Cumberland area.
Phyllis graduated from Greely Institute in 1938. She married Herman S. Smith in August 1939 and they lived in North Yarmouth.
Phyllis was involved in numerous town activities such as; Maine Extension Homemakers Council for sixty years, member and helped to organize the North Yarmouth Ladies Auxiliary, member of the founders of the Wescustogo Grange, made biscuits for many years for the Baked Bean Suppers while Herman made the coffee to help raise money to build the Wescustogo Grange Hall, became a member of the First Congregational Church where she sang in the choir and worked on church suppers. She made and donated quilts and wall hangings for many organizations. She served several years as Town Treasurer and Tax Collector of North Yarmouth. She retired from the Maine National Bank.
Her interests included knitting, sewing, Red Sox, Cole Farms, Bingo, card games, and spent many summers at her camp Little Sebago Lake.
Phyllis is predeceased by her parents, by three brothers, Alvah Prince, Whitney Prince, Lawrence Ross and her husband Herman.
Phyllis is survived by three daughters, Mrs. John (Janice) Woodcock, Mrs. Joel (Marcia) Fuller, and Mrs. Ronald (Sharon) Gregor. She is survived by eight grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday August 4, 2011 at North Yarmouth Congregational Church 3 Gray Rd. N. Yarmouth.
Interment will be at Walnut Hill Cemetery
The family wishes to thank the North Yarmouth and Yarmouth Rescue units, the staff at Mercy Hospital for their care and services.
