Cumberland Foreside, ME- Ralph Lee Malloch, 90, died on October 4, 2018 at Ledgeview Assisted Living. His son Wayne D. Malloch and daughter-in-law Mary “Beth” Malloch were by his side. He was born in Lubec, ME on October 13, 1927. He attended schools in Portland, Lubec, Jonesport and Calais, ME. He was a World War II Veteran with duty in the Philippine Islands and Okinawa. Following military service, he returned to school and graduated from Calais Academy in 1947.
He was a member of Horeb Lodge, AF and AM, Lincoln, ME, and FORBRPO, an organization of former U.S. Border Patrol Officers.
He was employed with the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service from 1947 until retiring in 1979 as a Supervisory Border Patrol Agent. His duty stations were Calais, Van Buren and Lincoln, ME; Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada; Highgate Springs and St. Albans, VT; Mercedes, TX (two occasions); and Oxnard and Blythe, CA. Following retirement, he settled in Yarmouth, ME where he worked for Goff’s Hardware and L.L. Bean.
He married Gwendolyn Elaine (Lowden) Malloch (his GEM) September 4, 1947 in Milltown, ME.
He was pre-deceased by Gwendolyn in 2003, two sons Earl H. in 1949 and David L. in 1989 and his half-brother Robert E. of Calais, ME.
He is survived by his eldest son, Wayne D. and Beth Malloch of North Yarmouth, ME. Four grandchildren, Tiffany A. Malloch of Ventura, CA; Matthew L. Malloch of New Albany, IN; Teresa M. Stadvec of Sanford, ME; Christopher J. Nailor of Huntersville, NC and eight great grandchildren and his devoted companion Buddha.
Burial will be in the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta, ME. Per his request there will be no calling hours or services. Those who wish to make a memorial donation in Ralph’s name can do so to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 516 Caren St, Springfield, MA or the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital, 22 Bramhall St, Portland, ME.
