Raymond Melvin Woodworth, 91, died peacefully at the Barron Center in Portland on July 18, 2018. The youngest child of Charles and Helen Woodworth, he was born on August 25, 1926 in Somersworth, NH. He was raised in Lubec, ME where he met and married his high school sweetheart Marion Davis.
Ray joined the Army and served his country during World War II. Once leaving the military Ray and Marion moved to the Portland area where he worked for Tower Publishing, Seavey Printers, and retired from Woodworth’s Printing Emporium. After retirement they spent several years living in Davenport, FL before returning home to Maine. Ray had many hobbies that you could always find him doing: golf, fishing, camping, horse racing, reading and many other sports. He was a huge and loyal Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots fan, as well as a member of the Masonic Lodge and Lions Club. Some of his most memorable trips included Alaska and Hawaii.
Ray resided in Cumberland for many years where he and Marion raised their family. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, sons Wayne and wife Julie of Buxton and Gary of Brunswick; 5 grandchildren Stephen, Susan, William, Bethany, and Tyler; and 3 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, brothers Charles “Chick” Jr and Frank; sister Dorothy “Dot” Doble and Marjorie “Marjie” Holmes, daughter Terry Lee Bodlovick, and daughter in law Glenys.
A Celebration of Ray’s life will be at Lindquist Funeral Home, 1 Mayberry Lane, Yarmouth ME 207-846-4011 on Sunday July 29th at 12:00pm. Committal service will be private.
