1933 -2018
YARMOUTH-Richard Chalmer Cline, 85, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on Tuesday, July 31, 2018 in Falmouth. He was born in Yarmouth on July 2, 1933, the son of the late Chalmer E. and Annie W. (Fitts) Cline.
On January 15, 1953, Richard married the love of his life, Roberta M. (Duggan), and they shared a loving marriage of over 61 years until her passing in 2014. Richard lived his entire life in Yarmouth. At the age of 15, he began working for G. Gordon Sweetser Inc., until later joining the United States Army. He was in the service for two years and served as Corporal and a Tank Mechanic on M-47's and M-48's. After his honorable discharge, he returned to work for Gordon Sweetser and also worked for the Town of Yarmouth as Road Commissioner. He later purchased the excavating company in 1974 and renamed it Sweetser and Cline Inc. Richard and Roberta were partners in both business and life, running the company until retiring in 1988. Richard enjoyed spending time in Bar Harbor and at his summer cottage on Cobbosseecontee Lake, as well as his winters snowmobiling at his camp in Greenville. Richard and Roberta also traveled the U.S. in their motor homes. Richard also enjoyed lending a helping hand to people in need.
Richard is survived by his three daughters, Susan J. Davis and husband John of Yarmouth, Janet M. Paul and husband Rick of Farmington, and Donna L. Cline of Yarmouth; his grandchildren, Matthew and Rebecca Davis, Sean and Adam Paul, and Alyssa, Brianna and Cameron Brown; two great-grandchildren, Harper and James.
He was predeceased by his parents; his wife; his son, Kenneth R.; his brother, Robert Cline; and his three sisters, Mildred, Shirley, and Esther.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, August 4, 2018 from 9am to 11am at Lindquist Funeral Home. A graveside service will immediately follow at Riverside Cemetery in Yarmouth.
