Richard Ayres Waldroup

Richard was born to the late John Curtis Waldroup and Albertina Vivian (Silva) Waldroup on May 5, 1949 in Winchester, MA. He graduated from Reading High School, Northeastern University and proudly served in the Army with the 173rd Airborne Brigade in Vietnam where he earned a bronze star. He then served in the Army National Guard for several years.

Richard worked the for the United States Postal Service as a letter carrier in Wakefield MA and retired as a Safety and Injury Compensation Manager in Portland Maine after thirty years of service. Upon retirement Richard drove a school bus in Yarmouth, Maine and was also an usher for the Portland Sea Dogs.

Despite being diagnosed with prostate cancer thirteen years ago, Richard persevered and enjoyed life to the fullest with his family, whom he cherished, and his many friends and relatives. He enjoyed playing golf and watching the Red Sox and the Patriots. He was a snowbird who spent his winters in Florida.

Richard is survived by his brother, Jack Waldroup, wife, Stephanie (McCarthy) Waldroup, son, Michael R. Waldroup, daughter-in-law, Julie (Lernihan) Waldroup, son, Matthew J. Waldroup, daughter-in-law, Kelly (Fisher) Waldroup, and four beautiful granddaughters: Evelyn, Amelia, Maren and Eloise. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Jill Waldroup, and his sister Pamela (Waldroup) Sarno. Richard also leaves behind many family and close friends.

Visiting hours will be held from 10:30 am-12 pm on Friday, September 11, 2026, at Lindquist Funeral Home, 1 Mayberry Lane, Yarmouth, where a Memorial Service with Military Honors will follow at 12 pm.
