Cumberland, ME- Robert E. Clark, 69, passed away from pulmonary fibrosis on March 24, 2023, at his home with family by his side. He was born on May 14, 1953, in Niskayuna, NY, a son of Albert A. Clark, Jr. and Mary Margaret (Parks) Clark. Rob grew up in Pittsfield, MA and graduated from Pittsfield High School. He attended Boston University and graduated with a BS in Psychology from U Mass Amherst.
Rob began his career with the Social Security Administration (SSA) in 1975 and served as a Social Insurance Specialist, Operations Analyst, Operations Supervisor and Public Affairs Specialist (PAS) during his 38-year career in Bangor; New Haven, CT; Biddeford; and Portland. He was the SSA’s Northern New England PAS from 1999 until his retirement in 2014; in that role, he was responsible for enhancing the public’s understanding of Social Security programs and was a frequent speaker at public events. He also served as liaison to governmental and non-governmental agencies and organizations. After 2014, he worked as an independent contractor with AARP and as a consultant with the Boston Tax Institute until he fully retired in January 2023. He also had served as a deacon at the United Congregational Church in Cumberland.
Rob stepped in without a second thought to watch his then infant grandson when Kristen’s maternity leave ended before daycare started. He loved his family and close friends, and Ruby, the family dog, rarely left his side. Rob loved to spend time outdoors, whether it was mowing the lawn or enjoying a long weekend at Bulldog Camps on Enchanted Pond with friends. He was also a great hand at home repairs.
He was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Brenda T. Clark, daughter Kristen C. Duffy, her husband James Duffy, and grandson Edward Duffy of Natick, MA; son Daniel Clark of Cumberland; his brothers Greg Clark and wife Meredith Fields of Harvard, MA; and Barry Clark and wife Michele of Pittsfield, MA.
